A Voice from
Our Community

Myron Pyawasit is the founder and lead singer for the legendary Smokeytown Singers. With over 60 years of experience, he has sung with four generations of Menominee men and continues to inspire drum groups and singers across Indian country with the distinct sound that has become a staple of woodland style singing.

Throughout his life, he has observed the pow-wow arena evolve with shifting styles and trends. Remembering his early years at the drum learning these songs and dances from the late great “Menominee Chiefs”, along with his mother and aunts, Myron offers profound gratitude to see the woodland social songs and dances being reintroduced to the Menominee community. He remains deeply humbled and honored to be part of the movement to restore these living treasures.
